The Lisbon Council launched Making European Science Flourish in the AI Age, a new policy brief that makes the case for Europe as a leader in AI-driven scientific discovery. Far from being a “regulatory museum,” the brief argues that Europe already has the foundations for leadership in its strong public research systems, scientific infrastructures and trusted governance frameworks. It must now turn them into scale. To unlock this potential, Europe must develop common data spaces, harmonise governance frameworks and strengthen public–private collaboration.
