Coronavirus: Next Steps

As the battle against coronavirus deepens and the recent vaccine brings hope the end is near, the Lisbon Council gathered an eclectic group of public health experts, leading officials, think tankers and thought leaders for the High-Level Roundtable on Coronavirus: How You Fight Pandemics – and How You Ultimately Win. Nicholas A. Christakis, Sterling professor of social and natural science, internal medicine and biomedical engineering, director of the Human Nature Lab, co-director at the Institute for Network Science at Yale University, launched the European edition of his new book, Apollo’s Arrow: The Profound and Enduring Impact of Coronavirus on the Way We Live. Later, Stella Kyriakides, European commissioner for health and food safety, gave a detailed overview of the European Commission’s European Health Union plan – and the implications for society and policymaking going forward. The group agreed to convene again in a year’s time to measure progress, discuss next steps and renew the sense of “hope and preparedness” that emerged from the discussion.
