Policymakers, cloud providers, management consultants and leading financial market service suppliers convened at the European Digital Forum for the High-Level Roundtable on Financial Services in the Digital Age under the timely theme How Cloud Computing Will Raise Competitiveness and Drive Innovation. Peter Kerstens, co-chair of the fintech taskforce at the European Commission’s DG financial stability, financial services and capital markets union, and Pierre Chastanet, deputy head of unit for cloud and software at the European Commission’s DG communications networks, content and technology, briefed participants on the European Commission’s plans and priorities in this key field, and led high-level breakout sessions. Oscar Pinto, deputy head for cloud, architecture and global deployment, engineering at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA); Julien Blanchez, global security and compliance strategist, at Google; Tom Deprins, global security manager for cloud services at KBC Group; Brit Hecht, senior policy adviser for digital regulation at BBVA; Cyril Maman, group cloud architect at Société Générale; John Midgley, senior manager for public policy at Amazon Web Services; Frederik Nevejan, legal counsel for information technology and procurement at ING; and Emmanuel Sardet, technology advisory and cloud global lead at Accenture, also joined the rich and wide-ranging discussions. The discussion will feed directly into the European Commission’s consultation on Fintech: a More Competitive and Innovative Financial Sector.
