User-centricity can help local governments address citizens’ needs and in the case of Kyiv, it can also save their lives. Against this backdrop, UserCentriCities, a 23-city, two think tank and one-association consortium, co-financed by the European Union, convened the High-Level Roundtable on The State of UserCentriCities: Coping with Crisis: Live Update from Kyiv. Petro Olenych, deputy mayor and chief digital transformation officer, and Oleg Polovynko, chief information officer in the Kyiv City Council, discussed the crucial role that digital government has played in keeping citizens in touch with essential services in the capital of Ukraine.
Convening as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities the roundtable saw the launch of The State of UserCentriCities, an in-depth analysis of the performance in 13 leading European cities and regions – including Kyiv – in delivering and designing services that have the citizens’ needs a the centre. Roberta Cocco, co-chair of the advisory committee for digital public administration in the Italian ministry of technological innovation and digital transition; Eddy Hartog, head of the technologies for smart communities unit in the directorate-general forcommunications networks, content and technology of the European Commission; and Markku Markkula, president of the Helsinki region and member of the Committee of the Regions, discussed the importance of leveraging data as a public asset and using it effectively, successfully addressing citizen priorities and European cohesion, to deliver top-notch digital services.
The UserCentriCities project will reconvene on Tuesday,15 November with The 2022 UserCentriCities Summit, a high-level City CIO-level gathering due to convene in Barcelona alongside the Smart City Expo World Congress. Among the cities taking part at CIO level are Espoo, Milan, Murcia, Rotterdam, Tallinn and Emilia Romagna Region – and participating cities and regions: Arezzo, Barcelona, Catalonia Region, Brussels Capital Region, Ghent, Glasgow, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Kronoberg Region, Kyiv, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Madrid, Mataró, Paris, Porto and Riga.
