Informed by a sizzling presentation of new research and the European launch of a flagship OECD publication, more than 100 education experts, NGO leaders, teachers, school administrators, members of the European Parliament and more convened for Virtual Town Hall Meeting on Education at a Glance: Building a Resilient Post-COVID-19 Society. Andreas Schleicher, director for education and skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), initiator of the highly-acclaimed Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and special advisor on education policy to the secretary-general, used the occasion to launch Education at a Glance 2020: OECD Indicators, a rich, comparable and up-to-date array of indicators on the state of education internationally. Silvia Merisio, policy officer for digital economy and skills at DG Connect of the European Commission, and Victor Negrescu, member of the European Parliament (Romania, S&D); vice-president of the culture and education committee and rapporteur of the Shaping Digital Education in Europe initiative, also intervened, weighing in with crucial thoughts on how the emerging Digital Europe Programme can be made successful.
