Meet the eco-innovators and political leaders bringing Europe closer to its green goals and energy transition through artificial intelligence. That was the theme of the High-Level Summit on Powering the Twin Transition, hosted by the Lisbon Council and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Eva Maydell, member, European Parliament (EPP-Bulgaria) and founding member, the EPP Group’s AI for Sustainability Initiative; Jörgen Warborn, member, European Parliament (EPP-Sweden) and founding member of the EPP Group’s AI for Sustainability Initiative; and Diya Wynn, senior practice manager responsible AI, Machine Learning Solutions Lab, AWS, led an all-star panel of think tankers, eco-innovators and sustainability leaders for a wide-ranging discussion on the decisive steps that policymakers and the private sector are taking to get Europe over the line and deliver a net-zero economy. Fascinating interventions came from Vincent Berrutto, head of unit for innovation, research, digitalisation and competitiveness, director-general Energy, European Commission; Paul Hofheinz, co-founder and president of the Lisbon Council and co-author of Green, Digital and Competitive: An SME Agenda for the 21st Century; Hassane Elias Kassouf, head, worldwide innovation programmes, energy and utilities, AWS; María Mendiluce, CEO, We Mean Business Coalition; Rasmus Rode Mosbaek, CEO and founder, Hybrid Greentech Energy Storage Intelligence ApS (Denmark); and Vassil Vassilev, product manager, satellite services and applications, TechnoLogica (Bulgaria).
