The Future of Connectivity: Unlocking Europe’s Potential

A resilient and effective digital infrastructure is not only the backbone of European digital transformation but a catalyst for European competitiveness, Enrico Letta, president of the Jacques Delors Institute, highlights in Much More Than a Market, his April 2024 report. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve the connectivity targets of the digital decade and tackle critical issues, such as the investment gap. Given the crucial efforts at stake, an open dialogue is essential to promote state-of-the-art connectivity, economic growth and global competitiveness. With this in mind, the Lisbon Council convened the High-Level Roundtable on The Future of Connectivity: Unlocking Europe’s Potential, bringing together key players in the digital value chain.

Notable participants included Peter Stuckmann, head of the electronic communications policy, implementation and enforcement unit at the directorate-general for communications networks, content and technology of the European Commission and Jaromír Novák, partner for regulatory affairs at NIX.CZ and former chairman of the council of the Czech telecommunication office. Mieke de Regt, counsellor for digital policy, telecommunications and postal services at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the European Union and Caroline De Cock, managing director at N-square Consulting joined the Roundtable along with other leading experts and decision-makers on the topic.
