The Artificial Intelligence Act

Workers have never had more education and qualifications. And yet the business community tells us they can’t find the skills they need. What gives? At this high-level roundtable, the Lisbon Council dives deep on the strange fissures opening up in the labour market – and the possibility that artificial intelligence could prove a useful ally in helping to resolve them. Speakers included Dragoş Tudorache, member of the European Parliament (Renew Europe – Romania) and co-rapporteur on the Artificial Intelligence Act; Paul Hofheinz, president and co-founder of the Lisbon Council and co-author of What Artificial Intelligence Can do for Workers and What Skilled Workers Can Do for the World, a new policy brief; Jens-Henrik Jeppesen, director public policy, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia, Pacific, Japan (APJ) at Workday Inc, and Karine Perset, head of artificial intelligence unit at the OECD and leader of the artificial intelligence policy observatory. The discussion fed directly into on-going negotiations on the final text of The Artificial Intelligence Act, an omnibus piece of European legislation currently before the European Parliament and Council of the European Union for amendment and approval.
