Text and Data Mining – a sophisticated technique in which advanced data analytics are used to discern previously unseen patterns in texts and other data sets – is quickly being adopted in contemporary scientific and academic communities. But who is using this advanced technique? And where? In this special briefing, Associate Director Sergey Filippov sets out to map the use of text and data mining in academic and research communities. Using a complex approach based on patent and bibliographical analysis, supplemented by extensive field interviews, he finds that European academics are falling behind their Asian and North American counterparts. The Special Briefing was launched at the OECD Expert Workshop for Knowledge-Based Capital in Paris.
